Robert Woodrow Sapp
Robert Woodrow Sapp, age 80, of the McDonald Community, Mohawk, passed away Tuesday evening, January 31, 2023.
He was the son of the late Woodrow and Mary Sapp.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years: Kathryn Sapp; sister-in-law and her husband: Sadie and Jim Jones; nephew and his wife: Charles and Prudence Scruggs; great-nephew: Jordan Scruggs; great-nieces: Tabitha Scruggs and Logan Scruggs.
He served 4 ½ years in the United States Air Force and retired from BASF/Lenzing Fibers.
Bob was a member and deacon of Beulah Baptist Church. He was active with Hearts of Christ Children’s Ministry and had previously worked with the McDonald Mission Center.
He was a member of Warrensburg Masonic Lodge No. 631 and had served as a Past Master.
Bob was a member of the McDonald Fire Department, where he was one of the founding fathers. He served as Chief for 30 years.
Bob had previously served on the Lowland Credit Union Board of Directors as Treasurer.
Bob was passionate about mission work. As long as he was able, he worked with the Tennessee Southern Baptist Disaster Relief team, traveling all over the Eastern United States helping with clean up after hurricanes and flood disasters.
Since 1998 he led many mission teams to Belize working around Belmopan and Roaring Creek and surrounding areas in building Faith Baptist Church and several houses. They also built toilets, bunk beds, installed water tanks, fed the poor and he and Kathryn sponsored several children in their schooling.
The family will receive friends at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home from 4 – 7 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will follow at 7 o’clock in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel with the Rev. Larry Jones officiating.
Committal services will 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery in Mohawk. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery for the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Concord Baptist Church for the Belize Mission Fund.
