The Kiwanis Club in Morristown has kicked off its 2023 campaign fundraiser and announced the return of the annual Kiwanis Kapers April 14.
Authentic Unlimited, a bluegrass band based in East Tennessee, will be heading the concert.
The group is comprised of former members of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver’s IBMA winning and Grammy nominated band and a two time IBMA mandolin player of the year.
“Three of the guys are from the Doyle Lawson group and we have some fresh faces in the band also,” Jimmy Dodson, Kiwanis vice president elect said. “They have been touring in multiple states and they are coming right here to Morristown on April 14.”
With a motto of “Excellence in Music” and polished harmonies, Authentic Unlimited aspires to bring joyful bluegrass tunes to music enthusiasts across the nation and beyond.
“We have been doing the concert for many years now and the past couple years it’s been a bluegrass gospel concert and we look forward to bring it back for another year,” Kiwanis President Josh Weddington said.
The concert will be held in Morristown-Hamblen High School West’s auditorium and will begin at 6:30 p.m.
As the sales campaign kicks off the deadline to purchase adds in the group’s Kiwanis Kapers Tabloid is February 10.
“You may see a Kiwanian come to you or place of business to talk to you about you can help the many young people and kids in our community,” Dodson said.
“The biggest part of the fundraiser is the ad sales, and we really count on the community to help fund this for us,” Weddington said. “Kiwanis is known for serving the children of the world and locally we help the children in our community.”
“What we do with funds in the community is we give money to Boys and Girls Club, Imagination Library, Young Life, Kingswood School and Isaiah House 117. Our job is to just give back and we want to help children programs in the community,” Weddington said.
