Lakeway Area residents are invited to let the good times roll and chase the winter blues away this weekend.
The Ninth Annual Lakeway Area Winter Angel Expo, presented by the Hamblen County Car Club, will be held this Saturday and Sunday at the Walters State Great Smoky Mountains Expo Center in White Pine. The all-indoor show is for cars, truck motorcycles and farm tractors.
Hours of the show are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday. Admission is $5 per person with children under 12 free. There will be door prizes given away. There will also be 50-50 drawings.
Hamblen County Car Club President Dick Valentine suggests for potential participants to preregister online.
Participants can hit the “community” button and can pay when they arrive at the show.
“Entries are coming in fast,” Valentine said. “The vendor spaces are almost filled. We have four times as many pre-entries. We have cars coming from Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and other states.”
Pre-registration fee is $25. The day of show registration fee is $30. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 vehicles. There will be independent professional judges.
As a non-profit organization, the car club’s profits are directed back to the community. The club’s outreach committee is tasked with how the club could best support the community through donations and activities. Proceeds will go to help local children in need.
The Winter Angel Expo is the largest money making event of the calendar year. Vendors, trophies, plaques and a silent auction will be held during the show.
Another popular activity at the show includes the East Tennessee Model Car Show to be held Saturday. Trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m., Saturday
Cars will be accepted at the Expo Center from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Friday. There will be no tandem axle trailers allowed on the arena floor. Cars are to be unloaded on the asphalt outside the entrance.
Live music will include Gritts from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday and Highway 416 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. The Pine Mountain Dancers will perform at 6 p.m., Saturday. There will be helicopter rides Saturday from Chattanooga Helicopter Tours for an additional fee, weather permitting.
