East tops Daniel Boone in overtime

Morristown East managed just six points in overtime on Tuesday evening but held Daniel Boone to three as the ‘Canes held on for a 59-56 victory.

Kyle Cloninger led the way for East with 26 points while Mason Smith continued his solid playing with 11 points.

Other scorers for East were Keagan Mink with nine, BJ Hubbard with eight, Carter Gilliam with four and Isaac Greene with one.

Boone’s Jamar Livingston finished with 31 points, however, no other Boone player scored more than five points.

It was a close start to the game as East led 13-12 after one quarter. Smith had five points in the quarter to lead the way for the ‘Canes.

East scored 15 in the second quarter but allowed 18 as Boone led 30-28 at the break. Cloninger had seven points in the quarter.

Cloninger took over for East in the third with nine more points, but Boone still led heading to the fourth, 44-41.

In the fourth, Cloninger scored six more and Smith hit a 3-pointer as East tied the game at 53 and sent it to overtime.

In overtime, Cloninger, Mink and Hubbard each had two points as East hung on for the win.

East will be back in action on Friday as they host Sevier County. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
