A Cocke County man was sentenced to 52 years in prison after being convicted of Rape of a Child, Incest and Aggravated Sexual Battery.

Parvel L. Gudger Jr. was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Carter Moore to 52 years at 100%. Gudger was convicted in a August 2022 jury trial.

“I would like to extend my gratitude for the hard work and dedicated professionalism of Det. Jason Ramsey, Det. Derrick Webb, the Newport Police Department and Safe Harbor Advocacy Center for their efforts in these matter,” said Jimmy Dunn, district attorney general. “I would also like to thank assistant district attorneys Mark Strange and S. Joanne Sheldon for their work and dedication. ADA Strange tried the case in August and ADA Sheldon represented the state at sentencing.

“Finally, special thanks, as always, to my investigator Tracy Ivy, victim witness coordinator Kim Hudson and assistant victim witness coordinator Stevie Croxdale for all their efforts assisting the family in this case.”
