West girls get road win over Austin-East

KNOXVILLE – Morristown West got back on the winning track on Tuesday, dispatching Austin-East 55-17.

With the win, West moved to 11-6 on the season.

It was a balanced attack from the Lady Trojans as 10 players got in the scoring column. Delaney Weddington and Jhaniya Mitchell led the way in double figures as Weddington finished with 14 points and Mitchell finished with 11.

Other scorers for West were Kalyssa Dinkins with six, Aubrie Messer with six, Mikaela Olodey with six, Kaylee Dyke with three, Gracie Bunch with three, Mia Dinkins with two, Cadence Beaver with two and Haven Simpson with two.

West got off to a quick start in the game with 22 points to lead 22-6 after one. Weddington had eight in the quarter while Mitchell added six.

In the second, West scored 15 more points and led 37-10 at the half. Messer led the way in the quarter with four points while Dyke added three.

In the second half, the Lady Trojans scored 18 points and held A-E to seven on their way to the big victory. Weddington and Olodey each had four points in the second half.

Morristown West will be back in action on Friday as they host Sevier County. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
