Strong first quarter pushes Lady Eagles over Washburn

Cosby scored 20 points in the first quarter on Tuesday evening against Washburn and that was more than enough as the Lady Eagles prevailed, 48-29.
Shylee Shelton led the way for Cosby with 23 points, scoring 18 of them in the first half. Other scorers for Cosby were Ali Smith with six, Kinley Coggins with six, Alexis McGaha with six, Ariel Ottinger with five and Kennadee Langford with two.
For Washburn, Saylor Clay led the team with 11 points while Braelyn Coffey added eight. Other scorers were Megan Beeler with six, Hannah Williams with three and Ebany Hill with one.
It was all Cosby to start as the Lady Eagles got up 20-3 after the first quarter. Shelton had 13 points in the first quarter, knocking down six field goals.
In the second, Washburn managed six points while Cosby added 11 and led 31-9 at the break. Smith had six points for Cosby while Shelton added five more.
The second half was a lot of the same as Washburn scored 20 points, but Cosby’s lead was too much to overcome. Coggins had six points in the second half.
Cosby will be back in action on Friday as they travel to take on Jellico at 6:30 p.m. Washburn will play again on Thursday at home against the Knoxville Ambassadors.
