Morristown Police Department’s Det. Matt Webb completes FBI’s Hazardous Device School

The Morristown Police Department offered congratulations to one of its own as Det. Matt Webb completed the United States Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Investigation Hazardous Device School.

As a member of the MPD’s Explosive Ordnance Device Unit, he was able to attend the FBI’s school.

Webb was appointed to the unit in July 2024; however, located in Huntsville, Alabama, this is the only such school in the country and has an extensive wait list.

His time there consisted of 280 training hours learning how to locate, identify, diffuse, render safe and dispose of explosive devices and materials.

Webb completed his certification on May 8, 2026; becoming our fourth and final member of the EOD Unit to be certified as a Public Safety Bomb Technician. Now that he has obtained the certification, he must be recertified at the same school every three years.

The EOD Unit is one of many specialized units within the Morristown Police Department and represents just a portion of Webb’s service to our community. Daily he serves as an MPD detective investigating crimes against persons, including harassment, assault, and fraud. Detective Webb has 19 years of law enforcement experience and has served with MPD since 2014. In addition to his regular duties and role as a bomb technician, he is a member of MPD’s Special Response Team and Honor Guard.

“I am proud of Detective Webb for being willing to accept such an important role within our department which provides a critical service to our community,” said MPD Chief Roger Overholt. “His dedication to obtaining this certification is greatly appreciated.”
