ROUNDUP: Patriots walk off Sevier County
Just nine-days after it no-hit the Smoky Bears, Jefferson County found itself in extras with Sevier County to open the District 2-4A Tournament.
In fact, the Patriots were nearly upset and trailed by one entering the bottom of the seventh inning.
However, the two that kept JCHS afloat were the ones that helped finish it.
First, it was Brody Carr, the Patriots’ star, who showed up when his team needed him most. After Sevier County took a 4-3 lead into the top of the seventh, Jefferson County turned to their ace and delivered three outs.
He then led off the bottom of the frame at the plate and blasted a solo homer to tie it and force extras. Back on the mound, Carr delivered three straight strikeouts to retire Sevier County in the top of the eighth.
Then it was Nate Nichols’ turn. With two outs, Isaiah Kirk drew his fifth walk of the game and stole second when Nichols stepped to the plate. Nichols sent him home, delivering a walk-off single for a 5-4 win in nine innings.
Carr and Nichols both had three hits, accounting for six of the seven total Patriot hits.
Cocke County 6, Fulton 0 Seymour 11, Cocke County 4
Cocke County opened the District 3-3A tournament with a win over Fulton but dropped the next to Seymour. The Fighting Cocks shut out Fulton in game one, thanks to a 13-strikeout performance from Oaklon Cameron. Ty Wines, Brody Hudson and Jackson Watts each had multi-hit games, with Wines going 3-for-4. Cameron also had a pair of RBIs.
In the loss to Seymour, the Fighting Cocks struck first in the opening frame, but Seymour responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame and scored eight in the final three innings to take the win.
