HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Knoxville Smokies closed out their trip to Rocket City by winning two of three games over the weekend.

Owen Ayers’ three-run blast in the top of the seventh helped lead the Smokies to a 6-1 win in Friday’s game. Carter Trice had a big fly in the top of the third for Knoxville and then Andy Garriola added a homer in the sixth as well. Tyler Ras got the win in relief for Knoxville.

The Trash Pandas put up a five-spot in the fifth in Saturday’s game and went on to a 7-5 victory. Garriola lifted off for two home runs in the contest and finished the game with three RBIs.

Trice’s solo shot in the top of the first was the only scoring the entire day as the Smokies won 1-0 on Sunday.

Knoxville won despite having only two hits all day against Rocket City. Four different pitchers saw action as Nick Dean moved to 3-1 on the season with six strikeouts. Luis Rujano picked up his first save of the season.

The Smokies will host Birmingham this week.
