Grainger Road Superintendent fends off primary challenge
Charles McAnally will continue to serve as Grainger County Road Superintendent thanks to a win in Tuesday’s election.
McAnally defeated challenger Darian Bean with 1,513 votes, while Bean finished with 1,334. McAnally has served as Road Superintendent since 2018.
The more interesting races came in the county school board election.
District 1 will be represented by Jason Stansberry and Jordan Combs. Stansberry was top vote-getter with 412 votes. Combs finished second with 352. Finishing out of the money were Becky Clay Lane with 261, Joy Oliver Turley with 173 and long-time board member Larry Turley with 146.
District 3 will be contin- ued to be represented by Chairman Harold Frazier, who garnered 450 votes. He will be joined by Steve A. Hodge who had 416 votes.
Johnny K. Brooks received 301 votes to win republican nomination to the District 5 seat. Board member Marcus Long received 288.
County commission races were also decided in Tuesday’s election.
In District 1, Wendy Noe received 482 votes, Scott Wynn garnered 457 votes and Roy S. Lovin, Jr. received 372 votes. Noe, Wynn and Lovin defeated current commissioner Darell “Dee” Stratton (341) and Grainger County EMS Director Mardy Bowen (280).
In District 3, Darrell Ray Williams, Andy Cameron and Becky Roach Morgan were all elected. Williams received 367 votes, Cameron garnered 345 and Morgan received 308. Tina Odom Davis received 280 votes.
In District 4, winners were Jennifer Fox Holt, Shelia Lay Davidson and Justin Epperson. Holt garnered 410 votes, Davidson had 355 and Epperson had 355. Long-time District 4 Commissioner James Acuff received 326 votes in the loss.
District 5 saw Jessie Cline garner 312, Lonnie Williams receive 279 and Rickey L. Dalton receive 244 votes. Mike Holt received 28 votes as he lost.
Commissioners in District 2 ran unopposed. Commissioners Luke Stratton received 393 votes, Ed McBee 375 and Rodney Joe Overbay 340.
The rest of the county officeholders ran unopposed.
County Mayor Mike Byrd was reelected to another term. Rena Farrow Greer was reelected as County Trustee, Sheriff James Harville earned another term, Sherry Clifton was reelected Circuit Court Clerk, Angie Jackson Lamb earned another term at County Clerk and Rick Diamond was elected Register of Deeds.
There was no democratic opposition in any of the races.
There were 3,012 ballots cast in Grainger County. These results are unofficial until certified by the Grainger County Election Commission.
