Five years after Summer Wells’ disappearance, TBI remains on the case

Monday June 15 marked the 5th anniversary of the disappearance of Summer Wells from her home on Ben Hill Road in Hawkins County.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said that the investigation remains active as the TBI, FBI and Hawkins County Sheriff’s Department continues to pursue all credible leads.

“Our commitment to finding answers hasn’t changed, and it won’t,” the TBI said in a statement.

Summer was five years old when she was last seen with her mother and grandmother, planting flowers at their Rogersville home.

She was reported missing to the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15th. Hawkins County investigators immediately began working the case. Shortly after that, an Endangered Child Alert was issued. New information and a growing concern about the well-being of Summer prompted the TBI to issue a statewide AM-Five BER Alert less than 12 hours later.

A massive search ensued, spanning weeks and months. By November of 2021, the TBI said they had not developed any evidence that indicated an abduction.

“All avenues continue to be explored, including foul play and the possibility that she wandered off and became lost in the mountainous and rough terrain surrounding her home,” the TBI said at the time.

“From the very beginning, our focus has been on Summer and finding out what happened to her,” TBI Director David Rausch said on Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
