Boys & Girls Club of Morristown names Youths of the Month

Brooklyn Matthews, Anthony Alvarado, Bayleigh Baes and Luke Briggs have been recognized as “Youths of the Month” at the Boys & Girls Club of Morristown.

Sponsored annually by the Kiwanis Club of Morristown, the program recognizes members based on their attendance, participation, attitude, accomplishments, behavior, and sportsmanship.

Brooklyn Matthews

Brooklyn Matthews, age 8, is the daughter of Everett Matthews and granddaughter of Sheila Jones. Brooklyn has been a club member for one year. She is currently in the third grade at Lincoln Heights Elementary School. She has a sister and a brother. Her favorite subject is math. Brooklyn enjoys swimming and doing art in her free time.

While at the club, she participates in many of the club’s programs, including games room, gym, park activities, performing arts, swimming, arts and crafts, library activities, the Head of the Class program, V.I.P’s and a lunch helper. Her favorite area of the club is the library and favorite activity is playing Kahoot. When asked what the best thing that ever happened to her involving the club, Brooklyn said, “Being named Youth of the Month.”

When she grows up, Brooklyn would like to become a Boys & Girls Club Staff Member. Adults who have helped or have been important in Brooklyn’s life are her dad and grandmother along with the Boys & Girls Club staff. Brooklyn enjoys the club and was asked why she attends and she said “I come to the club for fun. It makes me happy.”

Anthony Alvarado

Anthony Alvarado, age 10, is the son of Norma and Berto Alvarado. He has two brothers. Anthony has been a club member for three years.

Anthony is in the fifth grade at Lincoln Heights Elementary. His favorite subject is math. In his free time he enjoys playing with his dog.

Anthony participates in many of the club’s programs including gym, games room, park activities, library, the Head of the Class program, computers and swimming. When asked about the best thing that has ever happened to him involving the Club, Anthony said, “Being named a Youth of the Month.” His favorite area of the club is the pool and his favorite activity is swimming.

Anthony wants to be a firefighter when he grows up. Some adults who are important to him are his mom and dad. When asked why he comes to the club, Anthony said, “I come to the club because everything is so cool.”

Bayleigh Baes

Bayleigh Baes, age 11, is the daughter of Jill Russell and David Merrett. She has been a club member for four years. She has a brother and a sister. Bayleigh is in the fifth grade at West Elementary School. Her favorite subject is math. In her free time she enjoys swimming, playing outside and camping.

Bayleigh participates in many of the club’s programs, including library activities, arts and crafts, games room, the “End of Summer Blast,” Christmas luncheon and the Steak and Burger Dinner. When she was asked what is the best thing that has happened to her involving the club she said, “Going to the Steak & Burger Dinner.” Bayleigh’s favorite area of the club is the library and her favorite activity is swimming.

Some adults who have been important in her life are her mom and papaw. Bayleigh would like to finish school and then have a successful career. When asked why she comes to the club, she said, “I come to the club to have fun!”

Luke Briggs

Luke Briggs, age 11, is the son of Mark Briggs. He has been a Club member for five years. Luke has a brother and two sisters. He is in the seventh grade at Lincoln Heights Middle School. His favorite subject is science. In his free time he enjoys playing games and hanging out at the club.

While at the club, Luke participates in many of the programs such as “Head of the Class,” games room, computers, library activities, Torch Club, Inventers Club, going to a University of Tennessee football game, Steak and Burger Dinner, “End of the Summer Blast” and Christmas luncheon.

When asked what the best thing that has ever happened to him involving the club he said, “Being named Youth of the Month and attending the Steak and Burger Dinner.”

Luke’s favorite area of the club is the computer lab and his favorite activity is playing computer games.

Luke’s future plans are to be a video game developer. Some adults who have been important in his life are his dad, granddad and nana along with the Boys & Girls Club staff. When asked why he comes to the club Luke said, “I come to the club to have fun and learn new things.”
