Welcome back from break
We hope that you all have had a successful and fun first week back in school! This upcoming week will be our first full week back. Our Basketball Homecoming Court is listed below. Congratulations to the following students:

Executive Council will meet during TNN on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023. An important announcement was posted in the Executive Council Google Classroom at the end of last semester. Be sure to read it and check with your groups before Monday’s meeting. Code Force Coding and Robotics Club will meet on Jan. 5, 2023 and every day from Jan. 9, 2023 through Jan. 13, 2023. Snacks will be provided.
Dress up days and events for Homecoming week Jan. 17 – 20 are listed below:
Monday 1/16 – No School (MLK Jr. day)
Tuesday 1/17 – Bikers vs. Surfers dress up day (Teen Beach movie). Meet the Court video and Vote for Homecoming King during TNN. Court presentation and King Crowning ceremony between Girls’ and Boys’ varsity home games against Northview.
Wednesday 1/18 – BBQ Dads and Soccer Moms dress up day. Teachers vs. Students basketball game in the Gymnasium during TNN.
Thursday 1/19 – Pajama dress up day. Morning Breakfast party in cafeteria and gym (altered schedule with TNN time moved to 8:00-8:45 a.m.).
Friday 1/20 – Class Color dress up day (9th-gray, 10th-black, 11th-white, 12th-crimson). Altered schedule with early lunches and TNN time moved to end of day. Pep rally will begin at 2:00 p.m. There will be an away game at Jefferson County.
Saturday 1/21 – Homecoming Semi-formal dance from 7-10 p.m. in the school gym. Tickets will be on sale during Homecoming week for $8 or $10 at the door. Students must have their student ID to purchase their tickets and to enter the dance.
Students, as you come to the library this semester, please remember cell phones are to remain in the classroom, even during TNN. If you are coming to check out a book, please bring your student ID with you if you have one. This will allow for faster and easier checkout. If you do not have a student ID please let your TNN teachers know. Thank you!

Sports this week, Trojans’ will have a basketball away game against Austin-East on Jan. 10, 2023 and they will have a home game against Sevier County on Jan. 13, 2023. Go Trojans!
For scholarships, the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage essay contest is for students in grades 9-12. All students must register online. The website has a complete list of guidelines and information about the essay. First place winner: $10,000, Second place winner: $3,000, Five finalists: $1,000, and Eight semi-finalists: $100. The deadline is Jan. 13, 2023.
Additionally, the American Legion Oratorical Scholarship Program is “A Constitutional Speech Contest” that aims to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. The state winner will receive a $3,000 scholarship, in addition to an all expense paid trip to Indianapolis, Indiana in April to compete in the national contest and a part of the national scholarship pool. Trojans, remember West High will be rewarding students for their hard work and outstanding achievements by selecting a Student of the Month from each grade level in addition to the perfect attendance incentives. Keep up the great work and we hope everyone has a wonderful first full week back!
