Sgt. Diana Morgan, with the Morristown Police Department, recently received the Tennessee Highway Safety Office 2022 Speed Enforcement Award.

MPD data showed an increase in traffic crashes from 2019 to 2021, and the department saw a need to keep roadways safer for our community.

Morgan stepped in and helped patrol officers and other MPD personnel patrol areas that were deemed dangerous and high crash areas within the city.

She was nominated for this award due to her willingness to work extra enforcement in addition to her daily administrative tasks.

During the four months Morgan focused on these areas, crashes in the community decreased by 15.4% from the previous year.

Violations detected included speeds up to 91 miles per hour. Captain Brian Sulfridge stated, “This officer, Sgt. Diana Morgan, has made a lasting progress in protecting motorists and passengers traveling Morristown roadways by helping reduce the overall number of crashes.”

“The Morristown Police Department congratulates Morgan on her award and appreciates her dedication as well as all Morristown Police Department personnel’s dedication to keep our roadways safer for our community and their families,” department officials said in a statement.
