Charles Morgan Cluck

Charles Morgan Cluck, age 93, born March 10, 1929, of Morristown, went to his heavenly reward on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

Morgan lived a life according to the Holy Word of God and lived his life to hear the words, “Well done my good and faithful servant.” His life was spent serving others and his church, Manley Baptist, which he and his wife were charter members. He bragged to everyone about his family and church family.

When he lost his beloved wife, Katherine Viola Lamb Cluck, and his only son, Charles Lynn Cluck, going home was so much more than a dream, it was his faith and hope . He was a proud member of O.D. Smith’s Men’s Sunday School class where Tom Kaylor was his teacher and friend.

At the age of sixteen, he left his family and went to Arizona to work in the Phelps-Dodge Copper Mines, working on the rail train as a brakeman. In 1949 he enlisted in the United States Army where he was sent for forty-two months during the Berlin Air Lift in Germany. He oversaw a tank and battalion of men. Upon his honorable discharge, he came back to Morristown where he and Lloyd Skeen and J.W. Cluck opened a fruit market in Buffalo Trail. He was then approached by John C. Curlee, founder of Curlee Candy Company, to come and run the business for him. If you have lived in Morristown for a long time, Curlee Candy Company was a staple for many. He was given part of the business because of his faithfulness to the Curlee’s. He retired in the later 1990s.

In 1957, Morgan joined the Masonic Lodge #231 and at his death he was nearing sixty-seven years of service. He was so proud to be a part of his grandson’s induction in 2022. He was past Master in 1964. He was also a very proud Shriner, taking many children to the Shriner’s Hospitals. Morgan was a member of the Morristown York Rite Chapter #79, Council #113, and Commandry #22.

Others preceding Morgan in death were his parents, Goeffrey and Martha Cluck; brother, J.W. (Mae) Cluck; sisters, Verdie (Oliver) Roberts and Mary Ann Cluck; brothers-in-law, Paul (Marie), Hugh, Harold (Juanita), and Ralph Lamb; and in-laws, Minnis and Gussie Lamb.

Those left behind to mourn his death is his “daddy’s little girl,” Elizabeth “Libby” Cluck Ramsey; grandchildren and their spouses and great-grandchildren: Brandon Ramsey (Adyson and Lynzie), Tiffany and Devin Barnes (Hunter, Hayden, Kinsley, and Brooklyn), Angela and Joshua Akard (Malachi, Emalee, and Zaylee), and Jonathan and Michele Ramsey (Nathan, Brayden, Jaxson, and Ashton); Number one granddaughter, Jesse Lee Smith; nieces, Dr. Kitty Coffey and Mrs. Betty Miller; brother-in-law, Billy (Judy) Lamb; sisters-in-law, Jean and Nila Lamb; best friend, Lowell (Janice) Mills; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday, January 15th at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. A Masonic service will begin at 4 p.m. with the funeral services following with Dr. Tony Buchanan, Rev. Alan Duncan, and Dr. Ron Stansell officiating. These men stood by the Cluck family and are not only our pastors, but our family.
