Two men who fled Hamblen and Hawkins county sheriff’s deputies were charged Thursday.
Joshua Adam Beasley, 23, Morristown, was charged Thursday with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, violation of stop sign law, driving left of center, failure to signal for turn, evading arrest, driving under the influence, driving on revoked license, possession of paraphernalia and failure to exercise due care.
A passenger in Beasley’s car, Christopher Daniel Carpenter, 32, of Knoxville, was arrested on an outstanding violation of parole warrant.
At 12:09 a.m., Deputy Cody Malone, of the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office, was patrolling Cherokee Park when he saw two vehicles driving erratically going down Boat Launch Road towards the boat ramp.
A Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Beasley, pulled out and attempted to escape and narrowly missed hitting the cruiser of Dep. Bobby Kitts by running into a ditch and speeding away.
Beasley ran the stop sign at the intersection of Boat Launch Road and Brights Pike, turning left onto Brights Pike.
Beasley also ran the stop sign at Cooper Ridge Road, illegally passing a vehicle before the Cedar Creek Road intersection.
Beasley continued on Cedar Creek Road driving erratically and ran the red light when he made a left turn onto U.S. Highway 11E.
Beasley continued on U.S. 11E before turning right onto Stagecoach Road, reaching speeds of 75 mph in a 35 mph zone and also ran the stop sign before turning left onto Silver City Road.
He ran a fourth stop sign while turning right onto U.S. 11E going towards Bulls Gap. After turning left onto Bulls Gap-Saint Clair Road, multiple roads were taken until he turned left onto U.S. 11W heading towards Bean Station, where multiple Hawkins County deputies joined in the chase.
When entering Bean Station, Beasley turned left onto Huntsman Lane before continuing onto County Line Road. Beasley drove into a field near Delph Lane when both Beasley and Carpenter fled into the woods. Both men were taken into custody.
A search of the car resulted in recovery of digital scales, two needles and a plastic bag containing meth residue inside a container between the driver and passenger seat console.
A records check found that Beasley was driving on a revoked license due to being charged in June, 2021 with evading arrest. Carpenter has a violation of parole warrant in Hamblen County. Both men were taken into custody. Beasley admitted to the nurse at the Hamblen County Jail that he had taken drugs. Beasley is being held on a $16,000 bond while bond was denied for Carpenter.
