The Greeneville Police Department has been notified that there have been scam calls placed from a number showing as the GPD.

According to a news release from GPD, the person is using Chief Tim Ward’s name and is telling the people contacted that their financial information had been used fraudulently. The person making the calls then tries to gain banking information from those contacted.

The GPD urges citizens that if they should receive one of these calls, do not give any personal information over the phone.

If anyone from the police department needs to speak with you, they will request that you come to the office and meet with them, or they will come to your home and show you proper identification before asking for any information of this type.

Those thinking that they have been a victim of a scam should report it to their local law enforcement agency as soon as possible.
