All Saints’ Episcopal School announced this week that its search for a new Head of School has come to a positive ending with the selection by the ASES Board of Trustees of Steven Sorrell, Ed.D. for the position.
Dr. Sorrell will return to his home state of Tennessee from Lafayette,Louisiana, where he currently serves as Dean of Students at Ascension Episcopal School.
The selection is the result of an extensive, five-month, national search conducted by a six-member Head of School Search Committee and supported by Southern Teachers Agency.
The committee selected several outstanding finalists who were invited to numerous interview sessions including focus groups consisting of trustees, parents, faculty, staff, and students. Dr. Sorrell went on to receive the Search Committee’s recommendation to the Board of Trustees who, in turn, unanimously voted for his appointment.
“It is an absolute privilege to be selected as the next Head of School for All Saints’ Episcopal School,” Sorrell said. “My family and I are eager to return to our home state and to get to know the All Saints’ family and the Morristown community.
“During our campus visit I sensed a community that loves its school and that is invested in the school’s future. I truly appreciated the time I spent with the faculty, administration, parents (represented on the PTSO), and the Board of Trustees. I witnessed a community that appreciates All Saints’ past and is excited about its future. There is a palpable energy surrounding the school community.
“All Saints’ has a stellar reputation in the community where students are known and nurtured, allowing them to… discover and develop their God-given gifts and talents and grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. I will strive to follow and to promote the mission of the school every day that I serve the students, faculty, and parents of All Saints’.
“I want to thank the Reverend Dr. Smokey Oats for providing strong consistent leadership during his tenure at All Saints’.
“All Saints’ has a great team in place to serve the community and I look forward to serving with them. We will strive to be a school that loves students and loves learning. We will seek mission appropriate ways to grow our relationships with the students and families, grow our abilities as educators, and grow our community.
“We will work to be known as the school choice for families in Morristown who want educational excellence for their children in an environment that promotes the love, grace, and acceptance of Christ,” he said.
Sorrell will take the reins as Head of School at All Saints’ Episcopal School officially on June 5.
“ASES is thrilled to welcome Dr. Sorrell, his wife, Karissa, a career educator, and their two children, Madeleine and Ephraim, to the All Saints’ family,” ASES Board Chair Kris Yarlett said. “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we would like to thank the members of the Head of School Search Committee, our consultants at Southern Teacher, and all the members of the All Saints’ Episcopal School community who have contributed greatly to the search process.
“We laud all who were involved for their commitment and dedication to the integrity of the search process.”
