A pair of Dandridge Police officers were recognized by Chief Carson Williams for their actions during a camper fire at The Point Resort earlier this month.

Williams presented officers Sam Cameron and Michael Adams with letters of commendation for their rescue efforts.

On January 5, at approximately 2:43 a.m., DPD officers were dispatched to a possible structure fire at The Point Resort.

Officers Cameron and Adams happened to be nearby and arrived on scene shortly after the call was dispatched where tthey observed one camper fully engulfed and realized the fire was quickly jumping to other campers in the area due to strong winds.

Officers quickly determined one of the campers was occupied and began trying to alert the occupant. They woke the occupant and got her out of the camper just before it was destroyed by fire.

The resident only received minor burns to the bottom of her feet.

According to Dandridge Fire Chief Andy Riley, who was on scene that night, officers Cameron and Adams likely saved the life of the female occupant inside because she told firefighters that she was asleep and had no idea the campers were on fire.

“I feel officers Samuel Cameron and Michael Adams went above and beyond the call of duty that night and in doing so, possibly saved the life of the female who was asleep inside the camper, unaware of the quickly spreading fire outside,” Williams said.
