All’s Fair: TCAT Morristown hosts Practical Nursing career fair

Tennessee College of Applied Technology Morristown hosted the return of its Practical Nursing career fair Friday morning.

Many different healthcare businesses and facilities visited TCAT to find students to join its team once they complete the program.

Several local universities also attended the fair to tell students about furthering their education.

Among the organizations present was Lakeway Achievement Center, East Tennessee State University, Covenant Health, Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice, Amedisys, South College, Ballad Health, Carson-Newman University and many more.

“The healthcare facilities brought brochures and information to share with the students and spoke with them regarding LPN job openings, pay, and benefits,” said Faith Roper, Practical Nursing Coordinator. “The colleges also brought brochures and information to share with the students regarding LPN to RN Bridge Programs and RN/BSN programs.”

This is the first career fair that the program has had since the pandemic and organizers are excited for its return.

“This is the first career/job fair that we have had at TCAT Morristown for our students in the PN program since prior to COVID,” said Roper. “We have several colleges/universities, hospitals, nursing homes, home health, and physician offices in attendance”

The fair is for students attending TCAT at different locations and regardless of their progress within the PN program.

“We have 68 nursing students attending from 1st term to 3rd term and from all four of our campus locations, Morristown, Greeneville, Newport, and Tazewell,” Roper said. “We are grateful to all the participants for coming out on this rainy morning.”

Roper said that many students enjoyed the fair and the program looks forward to bringing it back next year.

“The students enjoyed the fair which makes it a success to me. We are already looking forward to next spring’s career fair,” she said.

Tennessee College of Applied Technology offers a one year Practical Nursing program at four locations.

The Morristown location has two classes going simultaneously a year that begin every May and September.

The other three locations, Tazewell has classes begin every May, Greeneville has classes begin every September and Newport has classes begin every January.

To apply to the PN program students would need to apply on-line to TCAT and then call Shelby Broyles to schedule and pay the $50 fee to take the HESI entrance exam.

On the day of the exam students will know if they passed or not after completing the exam. If students passed they can receive a nursing packet.

The packet contains a nursing application and information regarding what they will need to turn in with their nursing application to be considered for the PN program.

The program is currently accepting students for May for its Morristown campus and for August for its Morristown and Greeneville campus.
