Worker dies after being trapped in machinery at Bulls Gap facility

A man who became trapped in a machine at a Bulls Gap manufacturing plant was airlifted to an area hospital Sunday where the employee later died.

The man’s identity has not been released publicly.

First responders were called to the Barette’s Outdoor Living facility, on North Main Street in Bulls Gap, at about 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 19 after a worker became trapped in a piece of machinery on site.

Members of the Hawkins County Rescue Squad responded along with other emergency responders from multiple other agencies responded to the scene.

Prior to arrival of emergency responders, the patient was freed from the machinery.

Responders worked tirelessly on scene treating the patient for multiple injuries. The patient was transported to an area medical center by UT LifeStar from the scene where the man died from his injuries.

Barrette’s Outdoor Living issued the following statement.

On Sunday, March 19, a Barrette Outdoor Living employee was involved in an accident at one of our facilities and later passed away while receiving medical care. We are deeply saddened by this loss and are cooperating with authorities investigating the incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”

 In a statement, the Rescue Squad requested thoughts and prayers for the “individual, their family and friends, co-workers, and emergency responders.”
