A Cosby man who has an outstanding felony warrant in Cocke County, is facing charges in an assault incident that happened Tuesday.
Travis Wade Stuart, 47, of Cosby, was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated domestic assault and resisting arrest.
Deputies with the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 3800 block of Holders Grove Road in Cosby for a possible domestic dispute. Dispatchers told deputies that the man, identified as Stuart, allegedly used a rock to hit Rebecca Williamson in the head. Williamson told a dispatcher that Stuart was hiding in a garage. Williamson alleged that Stuart had hit her in the left hand and in the back of the head with a rock just outside the garage door. In a written statement, Williamson said that she had tried to give Stuart his belongings and after several attempts, Stuart came out of the residence and allegedly struck Williamson with the rock, as well as hitting her with a Dewalt drill in her arms and legs.
Deputies surrounded the home with Dep. Rodney Hazelwood and K-9 Dep. Jacob Damron going to the front door to attempt to talk to Stuart’s mother. Deputies looked through a window and didn’t see any movement inside the house. Chief Atkins also tried to talk to the homeowner. Entry was made into the home through a garage door that was unlocked. After Damron gave several commands, K-9 Wubba was sent into the garage to search for Stuart, but he was not there.
After Williamson told deputies that the entrance into the home from the garage was already broken, deputies checked the door, noticed that the glass had been broken out and went in. After coming to another door that was closed and commanding that Stuart come out, the door opened and a large knife was thrown which almost struck Damron in the face. Entry was then made into the home with deputies clearing the kitchen, dining and living rooms. There were three doors closed, including one bedroom that was unlocked. Deputies forced entry into the other bedroom that was locked. A woman, identified as Stuart’s mother, announced that she was in the bathroom.
In another bedroom, there was another closet unlocked where Stuart was found hiding. He was told to show his hands, but refused. Hazelwood deployed a tazer and hit Stuart in the right leg. Stuart had two knives at his waist, which were removed. He was taken to the Cocke County Jail.
