Morristown West sent 14 batters to the plate in the second inning on Monday against South Doyle, scoring nine runs in the process as they cruised to a 13-1 win in four innings.
Kaylee Dyke ended the game early with a two-run homer off the scoreboard.
Dyke led the way at the plate, going 3-3 with four RBIs. Along with Dyke, Aubrie Messer had a three-RBI triple while Alexus Mullane also had an RBI triple.
“Aubrie has done a good job at the plate recently, and you saw that tonight with her triple,” West coach Heather Kelley said. “That was really big for us to break the game open in the second. Kaylee Dyke was also really good for the second straight game. It was great to see her hit that home run to end things.
“I thought Alexus (Mullane) did a good job coming back into the lineup and hitting that triple. That’s just another good win for us. We just have to keep on going and improving.”
In the circle, Briony Bunsic threw all four innings and struck out six. After allowing back-to-back singles in the second, Bunsic set down the next nine batters that came to the plate.
West started the scoring early in the game as Aviah Bunsic singled in the bottom of the first, stole second and third and then scored on a Jaelyn McDaniel sacrifice fly.
South Doyle tied the game in the top of the second, but West scored nine in the bottom half of the inning to blow the game open. Following a walk to Messer and a single by Dyke, Hailey Milton drove in the first run of the inning on an RBI single. Cadence Beaver followed it up with a bunt single that two runs scored on an errant throw. Mullane followed that up with an RBI triple to make it 5-1. The next batter was Briony Bunsic and she singled home West’s sixth run of the game to make it 6-1.
The final runs of the inning came on Messer’s three-RBI triple, another Dyke RBI single and another Beaver RBI.
Following a scoreless third, West ended things early when Dyke smacked a two-run homer over the fence.
