Windy conditions did not deter both spectators and players at Frank Lorino Tennis Courts yesterday.
In an anticipated matchup between Morristown’s rival schools, East swept West with both teams winning. The boys won 7-2 while the Lady Hurricanes won narrowly against the Lady Trojans 6-3.
It was a matchup worthy of the newly renovated tennis courts at Frank Lorino Park. The Lady Hurricanes started fast in doubles play. Seniors Polly Jett and Finley Surber won convincingly over Melanie Gal and Sami Barber 8-2. Morristown West picked up a victory at number two doubles with Peyton Winter and Allie Moore winning 8-2 over Jocelyn Betancourt and Lakin Burnside. Lastly, the doubles pair of Lindsee Thornton and Emory Galbreath beat Taylor Dewald and Aashri Patel to give the Lady Hurricanes the 2-1 advantage heading into singles.
The top of the singles lineup proved to be resilient for the Lady Trojans. Melanie Gal won 8-5 over Jett while Peyton Winter beat Jocelyn Betancourt 8-0.
With the Trojans now leading 3-2, East had to win three out of the next four to earn a team victory; they won all four. Finley Surber edged out Sami Barber 9-7, Emory Galbreath beat Allie Moore 8-4, Lakin Burnside defeated Taylor Dewald 8-2 and Andreja Kyle-Taylor beat Lexi Shepard 8-3.
It was a much needed win for the Canes as they now improve 3-3 while Morristown West falls to 2-7.
The Hurricanes, too, jumped out to a fast start in doubles. Parker Spoone and Andy Hall won 8-2 over Eli Morrison and Brance Matthews. The duo of Jay Harrison and Rhyder Short beat Eli Shoun and Andrew Gal 8-4. The Trojans earned the last doubles victory with Bradley Greene and Noah Stapleton beating Diego Garcia and Ayden Stuffel 8-4.

Spoone beat Morrison 8-2, Hall beat Gal 8-0, Harrison beat Matthews 8-3, Short beat Shoun 8-5 and Garcia beat Polk 8-4. Bradley Greene earned a 8-3 victory over Ayden Stuffel to give the Trojans a victory in singles play.
