Bravo, Bravo: Rose Center hosts Bravo Awards

B

Prater Hall was filled with young talent Thursday night as The Rose Center hosted its 10th annual Bravo awards banquet.

The Bravo award is an award for students in grades 9-12 who have shown excellence in the arts.

It is open to homeschool, private and public-school students in the Lakeway Region and has two categories, Visual and Performing arts. Students wishing to apply can submit up to two works of art in their category of choosing.

Each category offers cash prizes with 1st place being $500, 2nd place being $250 and 3rd being $100.

The Morristown community, along with the Rose Center, has proudly come together each year for over a decade in support of these gifted students in hopes to encourage their pursuit of the arts.

The ceremony began with a delicious dinner catered by Little City Catering and lovely art themed cake donated by Food City was served for dessert. During dinner a raffle was drawn with many items generously donated by local sponsors.

Finalists in the visual arts category had their submissions displayed for the attendees to mingle and admire with works ranging from landscapes to self-portraits.

Rose Center Arts Education Coordinator, and former Bravo award winner, Kelli Sexton played the piano and sang a lovely solo. Then the guest speaker, Dr. Robert E. Pratt, II, J.D., M.A., who is the Walters State Community College Dean of Humanities gave an engaging talk on how art impacts the world. He encouraged the finalists to continue pursuing the arts and sharing their unique gifts of expression with the world.

Once dinner had been served, the evening progressed with performances by the finalists and then winners were announced. 1st place winner in performing arts, Marcelo Vargas of Cocke County played a classical piece on the oboe, 2nd place winner Emma Mulligan of Jefferson County played the clarinet, and 3rd place winner Isaac Lawson of Jefferson County sang a solo.

Visual arts winners were as follows: 3rd place, Elise Cox, 2nd place, Isabella Picardi, and 1st place Caleb King.
