Jefferson County drops opening game of Class 4A Sectional Series to Farragut

Jefferson County knew Wednesday night’s matchup against Farragut would be no walk in the park.

Facing UT commit Stratton Scott on the mound, along with a dozen other college commits, Jefferson County figured they would need to play a near perfect game to take the opening contest of the Class 4A Sectional Series.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, they were no where close to that perfect game.

Jefferson County committed six errors in the contest and never got comfortable as they fell 16-3 in five innings.

The Patriots and Admirals will play again tonight at 4:30 p.m., with an “if” game scheduled to be played immediately after. It will be the fifth time in the past three weeks that Jefferson County is facing elimination.

At the plate, Briley LaRue led the way for the Patriots with a double and two RBIs. Beau Revord also had two hits and an RBI, while Drew Potts reached base twice.

On the mound, Isaac Lawson got the start and threw 2.2 innings. Brody Carr replaced him in the third with two outs and pitched the remainder of the game.

After the Patriots left a man on second in the top of the first, Farragut came out the gate firing with three runs in the bottom half. Those runs came on an RBI single, an error and an RBI groundout.

Then, after Jefferson County left a man on second again in the top of the second, the Admirals blew the game open with five runs. The killer was a three-run homer by Texas A&M commit Jett Johnston well over the center field fence that made it 8-0.

The Patriots finally got on the board in the third inning to cut the lead as Potts and Revord singled with two outs. That brought up LaRue who slammed a double off the wall in left to score both and make it 8-2.

However, the Admirals were at it again in the bottom half of the inning as they scored five more times to make it 13-2.

Farragut added three more runs in the fourth before Revord doubled home a run in the top of the fifth for Jeff County to make the final score 16-3.
