Weekend events open with ‘Howls & Pals’

The Lakeway Area has several events coming up for the community to enjoy and also support local nonprofits and their missions.
The fun begins at “Howls and Pals” Summer Jam Series on Friday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Fulton Hill Park.
The event hosted by the City of Morristown Parks and Recreation Department will feature the Trick Shot Band as the headlining performer.
Trick Shot is comprised of a group of serious, dedicated, seasoned musicians with an eclectic mix of songs for the evening.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their four-legged best friends and mingle with other dogs lovers as you groove to the music.
However, all dogs must be leashed and owners are responsible for their animals and their actions.
Barkery Tails will have a booth for all your doggy’s needs and Local humane societies will have information available on how to adopt or foster animals.
The food trucks for the night will be Floyd’s Snack Shack, P5 Sweets and Snowie of Lakeway.
For more information, call the Parks and Recreation office at 423-586-0260.
Bright and early Saturday morning caped crusaders and boy wonders will be seen running through the streets of Downtown Morristown as the Isaiah 117 House of Hamblen County will host its first Superhero 5K fundraiser.
The run or walk race will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday and participants are encouraged to dress in superhero attire.
For runners to participate it costs $25 and for those who are “sleeping but supporting” the cost is $30; both options include a 5K t-shirt. Prices for entry will increase after June 18.
The goal for the 5K is to raise $25 thousand to aid in operating costs for its new facility.
Isaiah house is a nonprofit that provides children, who were removed from their homes out of concern for their safety, a comforting home as they await placement.
The nonprofit provides children a place that is safe with friendly and loving volunteers, clean clothes, smiles, toys, and blankets.
Its mission is to reduce trauma for children awaiting placement, lighten the load for child welfare services and ease the transition for foster families

Later that morning MATS will return with its third annual Family Fun Day event at the Morristown Farmers Market.
The event aimed to entertain the whole family will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature several food trucks, craft vendors, inflatables, face painting and many different activities for all ages.
Activity wristbands cost $10 and for children 2 and under a wristband costs $5.
All proceeds from Family Fun Day will go to support MATS and cover operating costs. However, the shelter itself is still in need of the community’s support.
Although the shelter is excited to bring fun to the community, it is still looking for volunteers to help with the event.
Volunteers are needed to assist with games, and activities as well as help with set up and break down.
For more information about the event or to volunteer, call 423-587-9215.
