An East Tennessee native and Walters State Community College graduate has eaned recognition for her first novel.

TRUTH IN THE NAME is the first published novel by Farrah Adkins – who writes under the pen name F.D. Adkins. The book – published by CKN Christian Publishing – earned third place in the First Novel Category at the 2023 Selah Awards.

Before writing her novel, Adkins – who now resides in Greeneville South Carolina – was a stay-at-home mom for 18 years.

“I had always dreamed of becoming an author, but I had placed my focus on being a full-time homemaker after having my first child and had never pursued a writing career,” she said. “When my children became older teens, I felt God was leading me to do something new, but I did not know what. As I continued to pray about this new season of my life, I suddenly had an idea for a book.

“However, as I began writing TRUTH IN THE NAME, I had no real intentions of it being published. After all, it was the first novel I had ever written. But upon finishing it, family members and friends encouraged me to submit it to publishers. I knew the odds were against me (at that time I was not even on Facebook), but I decided to send my manuscript to a few traditional publishers anyway. A few months later, my debut novel received a contract, and then that first novel turned into a series. Book Two, TRUTH IN THE WORD, was released last November.”
