The Isaiah 117 House of Hamblen County will host its first Superhero 5K fundraiser June 24.

The run or walk race will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday and participants are encouraged to dress in superhero attire.

For runners to participate it costs $25 and for those who are “sleeping but supporting” the cost is $30; both options include a 5K t-shirt. Prices for entry will increase after June 18.

“This is the first 5K we have hosted and we are so very excited,” said Jessica Lyle, Hamblen County’s program coordinator. We are hoping to make this an annual event and grow it each year.”

The goal for the 5K is to raise $25,000 to aid in operating costs for its new facility.

“We are hoping to raise money to help with operating costs for our first year at our new home in Hamblen County,” she said. “We have currently completed 42% and we are getting closer and closer each day.”

The Hamblen County house will host its ribbon cutting on June 27, just days after the race.

Lyle asks for the community’s support by participating in the race or donating to help reach the goal.

“This house has been built by the community and without the community’s support we wouldn’t be where we are today,” she said. “We hope the community continues to support us and our mission of providing physical and emotional support in a safe and loving home for children awaiting placement.”

Isaiah house is a nonprofit that provides children, who were removed from their homes out of concern for their safety, a comforting home as they await placement.

The nonprofit provides children a place that is safe with friendly and loving volunteers, clean clothes, smiles, toys, and blankets.

Its mission is to reduce trauma for children awaiting placement, lighten the load for child welfare services and ease the transition for foster families

“We can’t complete our mission without the community’s support and we need it to open our home this summer,” Lyle said.
