A coastal meal will serve as one of the CASA for Kids organization’s main fund-raising events in 2023.
The low country boil will be held Saturday, Aug 26, from 5-7 p.m. at the Amis Mill Eatery, 127 West Bear Hollow Road in Rogersville.
Missy Sturgill, Executive Assistant of CASA for Kids, Inc. serving Sullivan and Hawkins counties explained that the Low Country Boil is a two-pronged attempt at raising funds for the Hawkins County CASA branch.
“We will be selling individual tickets for $50 each for adults and for $10 each for children 5-10 years old. We are hoping for at least 100 attendees this year, if not more. The second prong of this fund raiser is attracting sponsors for the event,” Sturgill said.
“Sponsors will help CASA for Kids, Inc. host a successful Low Country Boil at the Amis Mill Eatery. Their sponsorship will not only help pay for the event but will be utilized in the local Hawkins County CASA,” Sturgill continued.
Sponsorships will be recognized at different levels with benefits such as tickets to the Low Country Boil, recognition on all CASA social media pages, promotional materials; and in press interviews when available.
CASA for Kids, Inc. has a Mission Statement which reads, “Our mission is to promote and support professionally trained Court Appointed Special Advocates for abused and neglected children in need of safety, stability and permanency, brought to the attention of the Juvenile Courts, giving them the opportunity to thrive.”
Shannon Kern, the Interim Executive Director for CASA for Kids, Inc. serving Sullivan and Hawkins counties says the event serves another purpose as well.
“The Low Country Boil gives us an opportunity to network with the community we are serving and attempt to form partnerships and solicit volunteers to help carry out the mission of CASA for Kids.”
“We need monetary support obviously, but what a lot of folks in Hawkins County do not realize is that we need ‘boots on the ground’ and we need immediate help in several areas to accomplish our goals of providing safety and stability to abused and neglected children in Hawkins County,” Kern said.
Kern can be contacted at 423-247- 1171 ext 1 or by email at shannon@casa4kidsinc.org for more information on becoming a volunteer.

The Low Country Boil comes highly recommended by the chief cook, Jake Jacobs of Amis Mill Eatery. Jacobs, who lived in Louisiana for over 23 years says, “I have been doing Low Country Boils for over twenty years, many of them for CASA for Kids. I will have shrimp with the shell on so come prepared to peel. There will be crab clusters, crawfish, sausage, potatoes, onions, peppers, mushrooms and my special Cajun blend recipe all in the same pot,” Jacobs stated.
“The Low Country Boil is not only some good eating, but also for a great cause in supporting much needed help for the neglected, abused children of Hawkins County. We will be in the pavilion behind Amis Mill Eatery and we invite everyone out to join us” Jacobs continued.
The Caldwell Sisters will be providing entertainment for the event on their guitar and mandolin. CASA for Kids, Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization so most, if not all, sponsorships and donations may be tax deductible.
Sturgill added, “we are looking for major corporate sponsorships to help fund our program. Any donation no matter how large or how small is greatly appreciated. Businesses, families, organization, individuals, we welcome any and all donations and sponsorships.”
If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, make a donation, or purchase tickets to the Low Country Boil, contact Sturgill at 423-247-1161 ext 3 or via her email at missy@casa4kidsinc.org

Kelly Williams, Director of Lakeway CASA serving Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, and Sevier Counties recently announced a fund-raising activity for Lakeway CASA. Williams wishes to clarify that this fund-raising activity is not to be confused with the Low Country Boil being held by CASA for Kids serving Hawkins and Sullivan counties.
Different regions have different representation, and all regions need financial and volunteer support.
