Jefferson deputy crashed wrong-way driver trying to elude capture

A mutli-county chase ended when A Jefferson County deputy purposefully crashed a wrong way driver in a stolen truck trying to get back into I-81 while eluding police Saunday evening.
Scotty Allen Barnes, 59 of Gray, remains hospitalized following the chase and crash and faces multiple charges across several East Tennessee counties.
On July 2, at approx 6:33 p.m. Jefferson County Central Dispatch advised deputies that Knox and Sevier County deputies were in pursuit of a stolen Ford F-250 traveling East on I-40.
Deputies attempted to deploy spike strips at two different locations but were unsuccessful. Barnes exited I-40 and began traveling north on I-81 and officers with the White Pine Police Department deployed spike strips at exit 4, that resulted in the right front tire to be deflated.
Barnes continued traveling north and exited the Interstate at exit 8 onto US 25E.
Deputies with the Hamblen County Sheriffs Office attempted a rolling roadblock to stop Barnes, at which time he turned around and began traveling back toward the interstate, crossed the median traveling toward oncoming traffic.
Sgt. Ransom Douglas attempted to stop Barnes with his vehicle but was unsuccessful as his patrol vehicle went off the roadway and struck an embankment.
Ge was treated and released at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
Barnes then drove onto the south bound off ramp toward oncoming traffic at which point Lt. Tim Herzog struck his vehicle with his patrol vehicle. The collision resulted Barnes’ vehicle going off the roadway and overturned.
Barnes was transported to the University of Teneessee Emergency Room where he remains in stable condition due to the injuries he sustained in the crash.
Barnes is wanted in multiple East Tennessee counties for outstanding warrants and charges related to the pursuit.
