The editorial staff of the Citizen Tribune was recognized nine times at the Tennessee Press Association Awards Friday afternoon in Franklin.

Among its winning entries, the Tribune took home two first place awards, a second place award and a trio of third place entries.

“I’m proud of the work done by our team at the Citizen Tribune,” said R. Michael Fishman, Lakeway Publishers President. “From the editorial department to advertising, production and circulation, we have a talented team of hard-working professionals who take the responsibilities of providing a community its news very seriously.”

The awards – which recognize the best work done in a variety of categories by newspapers across the state – were for work produced in the 2022 calendar year.

The Tribune took first place in Best Special Section for the Wallace 100th Anniversary section and for Feature Photograph for a picture taken by Tribune correspondent Drew Robinson of a Hamblen County Schools student who dressed up as various historical figures for Black History Month.

The Tribune earned second place in Best Local Features and third in Best Sports Reporting, Best News Photo and Best Single Feature.

The Tribune was also recognized for its sportswriting, headline writing and sports photography.

“While it’s nice to be recognized for our hard work, that’s not why we do this job,” Fishman said. “Community journalism carries an important place in the ecosystem of the community it serves.

“We have an important responsibility – as the newspaper of record – to tell the stories of this community, of this area. We have a responsibility to document the happenings in our community, on the sports fields, in the commission and council meetings and beyond.

“I’m gratified that our staff has been so well-deservedly recognized and I want to thank them for the hard work and dedication that have shown to this newspaper and this community.”
