The Morristown 11-12 Baseball All-Stars have put themselves in a great position following their first two games at the State Tournament in Columbia.

On Saturday, Morristown got up early and held on for a 4-1 victory over Daniel Boone. Then, on Sunday, Morristown sparked a sixth-inning rally against Burns, culminating with a Wyatt Jones two-RBI walkoff single to give them a 7-6 win.

Morristown will now take on Nolensville on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

In Saturday’s win, Collin Rouse got the start on the mound and threw 3.1 innings. Rouse struck out seven and held Boone scoreless. Jones replaced Rouse with one out in the fourth and pitched the next two innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out three. Kipton Smith relieved Jones and struck out the final two batters to end the game.

At the plate, Morristown got a run in the first as Rouse scored on a dropped third strike. Then in the fourth, Morristown added two more runs as Jones and Trooper Rader both singled home runs to make it 3-0. Boone got on the board in the bottom half of the inning, but Morristown answered back with a run in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Nash Synamon.

On Sunday, Morristown trailed 5-0 to Burns through three innings but answered back to take home the win.

The rally started in the bottom of the fourth as Morristown scored four runs to cut the lead to one. Those runs came on an RBI single by Brycen Ringley, an RBI double by Rouse and a two-RBI single by Nolan Sizemore.

Burns answered with a run in the sixth and led 6-4 heading to the bottom half of the final inning. However, Morristown responded as Smith scored Caleb Shepard on an RBI groundout to make it a one-run game. Morristown would then load the bases with two outs on singles by Rouse and Sizemore and a walk by Synamon. That brought up Jones who singled, driving in Rouse and Sizemore to win the ballgame.

On the mound in Sunday’s game Sizemore started and threw three innings. He allowed five runs on five hits while striking out two. Shepard replaced Sizemore in the fourth and pitched the remainder of the game, giving up one run on two hits while striking out three.
