Hurricane Watch – One month of the school year down… almost

B

And yet another week has come and gone. Nearly a month into the school year and the Canes are finally seeming to settle in.

Lots of hustle and bustle has surrounded the halls as more and more school activities and organizations continue to gear up and set their courses.

Tuesday night, the counseling department held their annual senior night, giving a bout of invaluable information to our upperclassmen and their families.

The night featured an hour of Q and A with four service branches, numerous local collegiate institutions and a representative from Jostens.

During the presentation, the counseling crew and guests outlined the financial aid and scholarship steps that the seniors would be taking in the next few months.

As college applications continue to open,we are excited to see just how far these students can go. Furthermore, the East High school website sports a live list of multiple local, state, and national scholarships available for all to see, feel free to give that a glance whenever you find the time.

Finally, transcript request forms can be found on the website under the counseling department tab, and must be submitted for any student wishing to forward their records to post-secondary institutions.

Another reminder that picture day for underclassmen is on this coming Monday, August the 28th, and is the first opportunity to take your yearly portrait.

We can’t wait to see your beautiful smiles in this year’s yearbook which is on sale now for 85 dollars.

Baby adds for the class of 2024 are due by October 20th, applications can be found in Mrs. Short’s room. On the theme of payments, HOSA fees are due ASAP to one of the advisors as the officer elections draw to a close.

The Morristown East Choral department is looking for sponsorships!!

These start at a meager 25 dollars and raise to your fancy, any donation would be greatly appreciated— make sure to talk to a choir member today if you are interested.

If band is more your speed, look into the Marching Cane’s fundraiser for their excursion to play with UT’s Pride of the Southland at Neyland stadium on September 23rd.

Links to these organizations can be found on the school’s facebook page or through communication with an involved student.

With the many clubs and inner groups at east, there is no shortage of things to be proud of.

This week JROTC students from both East and West traveled to Manley Elementary to teach the children there about proper flag folding.

These cadets are an outstanding representation of the overwhelming good our town is fostering, we are excited to see what else the JROTC will accomplish this school year.

Our East High sports teams have also been kept busy by their rigorous schedules.

The golf team had their second IMAC conference matchup of the season on Monday, the same night of the JV football season kick off, and another game for the volleyball team.

Stellar performance by our canes led to a 8-6 win over West on the field, winning technique on the court, and impeccable play on the green. Tuesday, Cross country faced off with West and other teams at the Panther Creek Invitational meet, and the golf and volleyball teams continued their scheduled matches.

Thursday the girls’ soccer team rivaled Northview and will continue their momentum into this weekend at the RockyTop Tournament in Gatlinburg.

The Canes varsity football team also played against Hardin Valley Thursday night, resulting in an unfortunate loss but in the same right, a motivation to work towards for next week.

But for now, the school week draws to a close and the students and staff go out into the community to do great things outside of our walls.

As always, GO CANES!!
