Kendall Lawson, the owner of Finely Feathered in Morristown, hosted a grand re-opening in a new location on Saturday.

Lawson’s new location now resides in what once was her father’s building, formerly Buffalo Trails Western Wear.

The grand re-opening event had several vendors present for the occasion.

The Chocolate Ladies were set up with a variety of their lovely creations, Tonya Neas offered permanent jewelry and hair tinseling was available as well.

Lawson moved to the new location after being in College Square Mall for over three years. She says growing up watching her dad run his store meant retail has always been a given for her as well.

“This spring we re-located to this building which was my dad’s western store. It was Buffalo Trail Western Wear. He was out here for about 27 years until 2017 when he passed away. Retail was just something that was in my blood I couldn’t get away from, so I ended up opening Finely Feathered,” Lawson said.

Lawson explained that what originally started as a way for her and her mother to grieve her father’s death quickly grew into something much more.

“When my dad passed in 2017 he had a lot of leather from the store, I was like okay what am I going to do with all of this, so my mom and I started making jewelry, and that was our way of grieving and therapy, it was our outlet. It was something we did together and it grew from there,” Lawson said.

Lawson says the name of her store holds special meaning to her and that she is grateful for the support of the community that has aided in the growth of her business.

“The name Finely Feathered was a God thing, psalm 91 kept coming to me and it was one of those things where once it’s placed on you, you can’t let it go. We started traveling around doing festivals and people who used to be customers of my dad’s started recognizing my mom and me and were asking when I was going to open. I went from literally a case of jewelry to this store. In 6 years I never dreamed I would be back here doing this.”

Finely Feathered is located at 413 Wilson Hale Rd. and offers a variety of clothing styles and accessories for all ages.

They are open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. -4 p.m. on Saturday and closed on Sundays.
