Senior Center to hold Bingo event

Disappointed that you didn’t buy that Mega Millions winning ticket?

There’s still a chance to win some hard cash on Friday, while engaging in a bit of community fellowship.

After a successful debut in 2022, the Senior Citizens Center in Morristown is bringing back its Charity Bingo Fundraiser in a big way.

“We’re excited to have a second year,” Senior Citizens Center Executive Director Valerie Farmer said. “It was so successful last year, that we are ready to make it a little bit bigger and a little bit better.”

Moving the venue from the center itself to the West Hamblen Volunteer Fire Department will more than triple the number of potential players.

Bingo cards will be available for purchase at the door.

“We wanted to make it to where more people could participate and open it up a bit more to the public,” Farmer said. “We can offer a much bigger space at the fire department; it can hold up to 400 people.”

Doors will open at 4:30 p.m.; the Bingo action starts at 6 p.m. Play is available to anyone in the community who is 18 or over. The cost is $30 for a book of 20 cards.

Since there are three cards per game and 20 games available, the chances of winning are far better than a national lottery.

The best part of Bingo, according to Farmer is its friendly competitiveness.

“What’s not fun about Bingo?” Farmer said. “It’s your favorite word if you get to yell it, and your least favorite word if someone else yells it.”

For those who get a bit hungry while competing, the Big Al’s Bent Creek BBQ food truck will be on hand before the doors open.
