Manis pleased with Grainger’s performance at Seymour

SEYMOUR – Grainger head football head coach Michael Manis was much more pleased with the performance of his team Friday night than he was just one week earlier.

The Grizzly boss said his team didn’t look as good as at first glance last week in a scrimmage against Carter but after a week of corrections in practice, he saw a marked difference against Seymour Friday night. “We came out with a better mind set than we had last week. We were more physical tonight and after watching last week’s film, we weren’t as physical as we thought we were but we challenged them all week how we had to be more physical.”

Grainger is installing a new defense this season and Manis said there is still room for improvement. “We saw some things that once we look at it on film, we will need to work on. There were some route stuff that kind of threw us off some. The biggest thing we will have to do is tackle on first contact as we missed a lot of tackles tonight and we have to clean that up for sure.”

One of the highlights on the night for the Grizzlies was the play of sophomore Kade Williams which included a long touchdown run where he zigged and zagged through the Seymour defense with ease. “Tonight, Kade got out on the screen and made one guy miss and then cut it back across the field for a big touchdown,” Manis said of his speedy sophomore.

The Grizzlies will host Lakeway Christian next Friday at The Den in the final pre-season matchup before beginning the new year against Claiborne on August 18.
