This week, Claiborne High School named Corey McGinnis as their new head softball coach. McGinnis, who has already been with Claiborne since 2017 as head basketball coach, played four years of college baseball at Carson Newman.

He spent many years at Morristown East, coaching a variety of sports including spending time as their head JV softball coach, and three years as a varsity assistant under Robin Vannoy.

Vannoy left an illustrious softball coaching career behind as she stepped down at East in 2020, amassing a record of 482-193 in her 19 seasons with the ‘Canes.

Claiborne’s softball program is on the rise; they made the district championship two years ago before falling to Greeneville.

“I am very excited to be the head softball coach at Claiborne High School and I look forward to helping continue to build a successful program,” McGinnis said. “I am confident that we will play hard, play fast, and be aggressive in all phases of the game.”
