Favorite son – Crockett Tavern Museum holds birthday party for namesake
The Crockett Tavern Museum held a celebration to honor frontiersman David “Davy” Crockett’s 236 Birthday.
The community gathered on the lawn at the Crockett Tavern Museum Saturday afternoon to honor the historic day.
Christina Mosley, tour guide, was thrilled to be a part of this celebration and to witness the great turnout.
“We’re excited to celebrate the life and legacy of Davy Crockett with the community,” she said. “It’s an honor to have this for our community.”
“I’m thrilled seeing the turnout this year and I’m happy to hear from some people who stopped and are looking forward to coming back.”
The celebration had black-smithing demonstrations, music, activities and games and historic reenactors.
Attendees also had a chance to explore Crockett’s childhood home and look at authentic artifacts placed around the cabin for free.
“We have some original pieces here that were donated to us from families around the area that show what it would look like for people who lived in this time period,” Mosley said. “Downstairs we have items on display from local trade smiths, so we have a lot for the community explore.”
Many families from the community were excited to be a part of this event a learn more about their local history.
Michelle Smith, mother of two, said she is happy to learn more and share this experience with her kids.
“History isn’t a big part of our kids’ lives as it should be and this celebration shows our kids that we have history all around us, even in our backyard,” she said.
“I’m happy to be here and walk around with my kids and see all the neat stuff they have in the museum and learn about something with my kids.”
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the museum has already received visits from tourist from 44 different states and 11 different countries, but they look forward to meeting more locals.
