Morristown-Hamblen West High senior Chloe Seal received the Northeast Student Recognition Award from the Tennessee School Boards Association.

Seal, who is the daughter of Deedee and Scott Seal, received the award at TSBA’s Fall District Meeting on August 28 in Blountville.

“Honestly winning the award was really exciting and an honor. I was so shocked that they chose me as the winner and I’m so thankful to the TSBA for this award,” Seal said.

She is Student Body President, a member of FCA, played for the schools volleyball team for four years, was voted DECA President after winning first place in Buying and Merchandising at the state competition and was a part of the Beta Club team who placed first in Marketing and Communications at the state competition.

Seal also has served on the school’ Astron Yearbook staff since her sophomore year. She helped with last year’s book which was awarded Superior awards from the Tennessee High School Scholastic Association and the American Scholastic Association. She currently serves as the Editor in Chief.

“My high school experience has been pretty amazing, besides freshman year with COVID,” Seal said. “I tried to spend my time here joining as many organizations as I can so I could meet a lot of people and be connected to many different groups.

“I love being able to walk down the halls and know everyone’s names and be able to talk with them and ask how they’re doing,” she said.

West High School Principal Jeff Kinsler said he is honored to have a student from his school receive the distinction but knowing Seal, it isn’t a shock.

“I’d start by saying we are always honored and humbled for any of our students to be recognized, especially by an organization that is so well respected such as the TSBA,” Kinsler said. “However, when it comes to Chloe we are not surprised because she’s a top-notch student and a top notch young lady.

“She holds many leadership positions in the organizations she’s in. Chloes is one of those people who doesn’t lead to get recognition but does so as an act of service.

“Chloe is a member of Beta Club and their motto is” let us lead by service” and she is the perfect model of servant leadership,” Kinsler said.

As a district award winner, Seal will be considered for the statewide overall award by submitting a 1000-word essay on how to improve public schools to better prepare students to be successful in their chosen careers.

The statewide winner will be recognized at the TSBA Annual Convention at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center on November 18, 2023.

“It is still almost unbelievable that I won for the district and I’m hoping to keep going and win in the state later this fall.”
