James Charles Massengill

James Charles Massengill, age 91, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2023.

Charles was born, married and raised his family in Morristown, Tennessee. Charles served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. After that, he worked for Morristown Chest Company before starting his long career with Southern Furniture Supply.

Charles loved to buy and sell antiques and attended estate auctions throughout the Southeast on most weekends. His passion, though, was restoring antique trucks. After retiring, Charles and his wife, Jean moved to Knoxville in 2000 to be closer to their grandchildren. Charles was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

He spent his last months in the care of Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veterans’ Home.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife Jean Britt Massengill and his six siblings, Evelyn Elmore, Bobby Massengill, Jewel Ayscue, Phyllis DeLuca, Buddy Massengill, and Gerry Harris.

He is survived by his sons Bob Massengill (Tiffany) and Jim Massengill (Kristin) and granddaughters Ashley, Emma and Siena and many beloved nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held in Morristown, TN on Tuesday, September 12th at 11:00 a.m., at the Hamblen Memory Gardens & Mausoleum, 5421 E Andrew Johnson Hwy, Morristown, TN 37814.
