SNEEDVILLE – Two teams in search of their first win of the season clashed Friday night with Claiborne coming out on top of Hancock County 40-6.

Cole Jones got things going early for the Bulldogs as he returned a punt for a score but the extra point failed. After Korbin Hatfield picked off an Indian pass on defense, the offense took over and produced as Jones was in for a second score of the night. Hancock was able to get on the board with a touchdown but the point after was no good. Claiborne lead 12-6 at the half.

Claiborne’s first score of the second half was a long one as Tyrell Myles scored on a run from inside his own 10. The two-point conversion failed but the Dawgs were on top 18-6. The Tribe fumbled the ensuing kickoff and RJ Robinson fell on it at the 30. Hatfield hauled in a touchdown from Zay Gerrells and then he was good on the conversion to make it 26-6.

Gerrells was in on the quarterback sneak the next time Claiborne had the ball and was pushed into the endzone by teammates for the conversion to balloon the lead to 34-6. Jones scored his third touchdown of the night with 17 seconds left in the third quarter.

That produced the 40-6 final score.

Jones had 9 carries for 187 yards and two touchdowns. He also had two punt returns for 83 Yards and a touchdown.

Claiborne takes on Cosby next week.
