Hurricane Watch – Dressing up for College Application Week
B
Big things are brewing in the halls of East High as the school year continues to chug by.
The approach toward fall presents students with many fun events and traditions that are broaching the horizon.
Firstly, another reminder that yearbooks are on sale for $85 s, which is the lowest price of the year— plus the staff will begin having lunch sales for ease of purchase starting on September 11th. Make sure to get your orders in because our already talented authors attended a Jostens Workshop this past week and are ready to create the best edition to date.
Although Homecoming week isn’t until October, College Application Week will bring a fun twist to the normal day to day starting on September 18th. The week-long event will feature five dress up days: Military Appreciation Monday (dress in camo), Your Future is Bright Tuesday (dress in your future career attire), Follow Your Dreams Wednesday (pj day, everyone’s favorite), Off to College Thursday (sport your favorite college T-shirt or apparel item), and It all Starts Here Friday (show your East High school spirit)— along with fun activities such as college trivia, virtual campus tours, a scavenger hunt, celebrity college board, and a much anticipated teacher Tik-tok.
This is a week you won’t want to miss—especially for the upperclassmen. Speaking of Homecoming though, voting for the senior court and the underclassmen representatives will take place on the 12th of September in third period.
If the glitz and glamour doesn’t appeal to you, turn your sights to the annual powderpuff sign ups. Each grade has a staff representative and a few student leaders to look to if you’re interested. All prospective players must attend five practices to play in the pep-rally in October.
Our East High Athletics have had some noteworthy performances this week, the Lady Canes Soccer Team mercy ruled their Northview opponents on Thursday, a 9-0 sweep, with seven goals scored by senior Kirsten Sadlon.
On the same night the Volleyball team showed our cross-town rivals whose house it was in their 3-1 set win against West.
The golf team participated in a tri-match against Science Hill and Greenville resulting in a win for the ladies and second place for the boys. Hunter Worth co-medaled for the second week in a row and some low scores were displayed from Parker Spone, Clint Hemminger, and Sydney Courtney.
Finally, the football team travels to William Blount High School and a score report will be accounted for next week. Moving away from sports, The interact, FCA, and beta clubs are hosting their meetings this week, so if you are interested make sure to reach out to a member or a sponsor to secure your place in these extracurriculars.
The FBLA and DECA bookstore is now open on the second floor as well.
A hit amongst students in years past, the shop will help business students develop thoughtful economic skill and business practices while providing hungry students with in demand snacks and other small items. Finally, we would like to acknowledge and congratulate Benjamin Concha Martinez for being recognized for his academic excellence by the College Board Recognition Programs. Ben is a model for the stellar students our institution creates and we cannot wait to see the big things he will do in this program and farther along in his future.
That’s all for this week, and for all the readers the Canes hope you have the most wonderful weekend!
