Ready to get back to work after snow days

Welcome back Trojan Nation to this week’s Trojan Talk! Hoping everyone has enjoyed the past snowy week!

After months of hard work, the CTE construction class has completed the Books & Beans set up, and it is now open for West High to enjoy. West High students and faculty can either use their lunch number or cash, but they cannot use a card to pay. Breakfast at Books & Beans is free from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Snacks, drinks, and coffee machines are up and ready for students to purchase and enjoy. Coffee is available in a small and large size, with the small being two dollars and the large being 4 dollars. There is vanilla, mocha, caramel, and plain black coffee available. There is an optional whipped cream option as well as sweetener creamer to add for taste.

Feb 27, All junior TNNs will be in the auditorium to hear from Erika Adams with THEC will be talking to them about college and career search and financial aid.

MoWest Cheerleading tryouts for the 2025/2026 school year will be held April 1st- 4th. See social media or Ms. Jones for the Google Classroom code to join. All materials are due through Google Classroom by March 17th.

Seniors make sure to apply to scholarships before their deadlines!

4H/FFA Jefferson County Fair- This scholarship is sponsored by the Jefferson County Fair Board. Only one 4H Scholarship and one FFA Scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,000. The completed application and additional requirements must be submitted by the deadline. The application is available in the Counseling Office Google Classroom.

Deadline: Feb 28, 2025

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Scholarship- is dedicated to community involvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. The Tennessee Federation awards scholarships of $1,000 to deserving students in Tennessee. Candidates must be planning to attend a Tennessee College or University. Applications are in the Counseling Office Google classroom.

Deadline: March 1, 2025

Horatio Alger Association Scholarship- provide financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. Scholarship criteria also include high school graduation, demonstrate financial need, commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree, and United States citizenship.

Deadline: March 1, 2025

Stan and Thelma Plumlee Scholarship- seniors applying for this $2,000 scholarship must be attending an accredited Tennessee public or private university or college, or a technical school program. Students MUST be associated with the manufactured or modular housing construction industry to be considered (example: living in a modular home or having a family that works in the modular home business).

Deadline: March 6 , 2025

Local Civics Essay Competition- The Greeneville and Knoxville Divisions of the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Tennessee are working together, along with local chapters of the Federal Bar Association, on the local contest and the national contest is being held by the national Federal Bar Association. The essay is limited to 1,000 words. Full details are available in the Counseling Office Google Classroom.

Deadline: March 14, 2025.

In sports news, congratulations to the following wrestlers for advancing to state: Ezekiel Alvarado, Mason Stipes, Landen Dilley, and Ian Carr. Feb 28- March 6 there will be a Basketball Region tournament.
