Washburn girls down Hancock, boys fall to open district tournament

WASHBURN – The opening round of the district tournament for the Washburn Lady Pirates was an easy one as they downed Hancock County 70-14. Scoring 16 points to lead the home team in scoring was Hayden Welch with Taylie Proffitt and Hannah Williams scoring 15 points each for Washburn. Zoe Pyne had five points for the Lady Indians. The game was decided right away as Washburn led 25-3 at the end of the first period.
Hancock 64, Washburn 59
WASHBURN – Hancock County’s Isiah Fodor scored 25 points to lead the Indians to a 64-59 win over host-team Washburn in the first round of the district tournament. Gavin Kincaid paced the Pirates with 21 points, followed by 13 from Matthew Harville. Colton Jones scored 13 for Hancock County and Nason Delph had 10. Washburn trailed by three with only 14 seconds to go but Fodor’s free throws iced the win.
