Damaged utility pole repaired
Travelers along W. Morris Boulevard during the recent wintry weather got the unusual sight of an unusual solution to a broken utility pole.
A vehicle had left the roadway in front of the Koch Foods plant and struck the pole hard enough to break it, dramatically so, over the weekend.
While the roads remained slick and crews were addressing issues all over the county, Morristown Utilities positioned a bucket utility truck beside the pole to support it until, weather permitting, the proper repair could be made.
“MU responded quickly and was able to stabilize and support the pole and power lines until a new pole could be installed and lines moved,” a statement from Morristown Utilities said. “There was no significant or prolonged outage as a result of the broken utility pole.”
Nonetheless, the break looked precarious as the top part of the pole hung beside one of Morristown’s busiest thoroughfares.
Repairs were completed on Tuesday after underground utility locations could be confirmed so a new pole could be set.
