It is official. Academy Sports+ Outdoors is opening a new location in Morristown.

The store will be located at 130 Terrace Lane in Morristown, the former location of the now-shuttered Bargain Hunt store. This will be in the same complex with Ashley Furniture and Tennessee Jack’s restaurant. The complex is across East Morris Boulevard from College Square Mall and also has road access from U.S. Highway 25E, aka Davy Crockett Parkway.

According to information from LDI Reproprinting Centers website, this is a tenant fit-out of a 50,409 square-foot existing mercantile store to make way for a new Academy Sports + Outdoors store. Scope of work will include, but is not limited to: demolition, framing, drywall, painting, finishes, MEP and minor exterior improvements.

Academy Sports + Outdoors is one of the nation’s largest sporting goods and outdoor stores.

With 301 stores across 21 states, as of March 7, 2025, the company offers a broad assortment of quality hunting, fishing, and camping equipment and gear, along with sports and leisure products, footwear, apparel and much more.

Academy is headquartered in Katy, TX, a suburb of Houston.

Over the last several decades, the company has grown substantially from its small beginnings.

Sales reached one billion dollars in 2003, two billion dollars in 2007, three billion dollars in 2012, and four billion dollars in 2014.

In fiscal 2022, sales reached $6.4 billion.

The expansion is part of Academy’s broader strategy to increase its presence in the Southeastern U.S., including Tennessee. General contractor is Horizon Retail Construction, Inc. of Sturtevant, Wisconsin.

Academy sells men’s, women’s and children’s athletic and sportswear; shoes and boots; outdoors products including hunting items; firearms; ammunition; fishing supplies; camping and hiking supplies; boating equipment and water bottles/tumblers and coolers, including Stanley, Yeti and more; self-defense items including knives, machetes and more; as well as blankets, throws, drinkware, air guns and more.

Other area locations for Academy include Johnson City, Kingsport, Knoxville and Cookeville.
