Bybee residence destroyed in fire
A Goodwater Road residence in the Bybee community was destroyed in a fire reported Wednesday.
According to a report from the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office, Lt. Rodney Hazelwood was called to the home where animals were reportedly inside the home with the house fully engulfed. Firefighters from the Parrottsville Volunteer Fire Department had already responded and was putting the fire out.
The daughter of the homeowner, identified as Tara Dolinger-Mynes, told deputies that she lives in a camper near the residence. She said that her dog barked, but she didn’t see anything unusual. When Dolinger-Mynes walked toward the home, she saw flames on the front porch and living room areas.
During a phone call, homeowner Jacqueline Dolinger told deputies that she had left for work around 6 a.m. and that she did leave a fire going in the woodstove. She identified two cats and one dog inside the home, who did not make it out. Another building next to the house was also engulfed.
The case was assigned to a detective and is under investigation.
