Roundup: Trojans fall to University School

Leading 6-3 entering the top of the sixth inning, the Trojans let up seven runs in the inning and fell to University School 10-8. West put in a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame but couldn’t overcome the deficit.

The Trojans took an early 2-0 lead on a fielder’s choice and an RBI single from Nate Ramsey. The Bucs came within one with a run in the top of the second, and they took a 3-2 lead in the third thanks to a two-run blast. Ramsey again drove in a run on a single to tie it, and a sac fly from Connor Rouse gave West the lead in the fourth.

A Logan Long RBI single and a Caleb Rodrick RBI groundout extended it to 6-3 before University School got rolling in the sixth.

Ramsey hit another two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to complete a perfect 4-4, 3 RBI night, and Long drove in another run to close the scoring.

The Trojans hosted Jefferson County on Friday night.

Jefferson County 3, Knox Central 0

After being shutout in their first two games, the Patriots pitched a shutout of their own with a 3-0 win over the Bobcats.

Drew Molter and Drew Larrance held things down on the mound, only giving up a combined five hits and striking out six. Sean Young and Jackson Ormonde each had two-hit nights, with Ormonde picking up an RBI as well.

University School 10, Grainger 7

Grainger scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning against University School but couldn’t hold on to the lead as the Buccaneers came back to claim a 10-7 win on Thursday. Josh Walker, Ty Collins, Noah Larrance, Dain Humbard and Jackson Trent all had hits for the Grizzlies. Humbard had five strikeouts, no walks and one earned run on the bump for Grainger. The Grizzlies led 7-4 going to the sixth but that was when the Bucs struck for six runs.

Lakeway Christian 13, Daniel Boone 3

Hudson Ford had the kind of day on Thursday that players dream of. He smacked two pitches out of the park and drove in an incredible eight runs as the Lakeway Christian Academy Lions walloped Daniel Boone, 13-3. After falling behind 2-0 in the first, Ford crushed a three-run homer to left field to make it 5-2 and the rout was on after that. Ford was a perfect 3-for-3 on the day and also added a double. Chase Gregory, Diego Pinilla and Jack Hamilton each hit a double for the Lions. Luke Burnett picked up the win for LCA as he had four strikeouts in four innings. Jovin Willems threw the final inning and added a K.

Softball

(Wed.) Morristown West 14, Jefferson County 2

Eva Boudier hit a perfect 4-4 with two RBIs in the leadoff spot to help the Lady Trojans rout the Lady Patriots. West outhit Jeff 18-8 with seven Lady Trojans having multi-hit games. Kara Dyke, Sydney Mendez, and Lynlee McDaniel each drove in three runs to make up the majority of the run support.

Union City 7, Morristown East 3

Jaycee Hamilton collected three hits in three at bats, but it wasn’t enough as East fell to Union City on Thursday. Macy Davis also collected three hits and Ally Daniels two. East scored all three runs in the first before Union City put in seven unanswered for the win.

Knox Catholic 10, Jefferson County 2

The Lady Patriots suffered a second straight loss, falling to Knox Catholic 10-2 on Thursday. The Lady Irish put in six runs in the first two innings, and another three in the sixth. McKaylee Hobby and Bella Watson each had three hits in the loss.

Grainger 6, Claiborne 3

Destanee Davis had a double and three RBIs as the Grainger Lady Grizzlies took a 6-3 decision against Claiborne Thursday afternoon. Davis also started in the circle for Grainger and picked up the win with one strikeout and no walks and Shylo Williford had eight K’s in relief. Mckinley Mills had a double for the Lady Grizz. Claiborne was haunted by five errors in the game. Grainger faces Science Hill on Saturday.

Heritage 14, Lakeway Christian 0

Lakeway Christian was limited to only one hit in a 14-0 setback to Heritage on Thursday. Zoey Shockley was the only Lady Lion to reach base on a hit against Heritage. They face First Baptist Academy in their next contest.
